A complete new exterior lighting design has transformed the night time appearance of the Old State House, a National Historic Landmark and the oldest public building in the city of Boston. Through an initiative of Light Boston, funding was secured to enhance the appearance of the building and improve public safety through a comprehensive new illumination plan. The installation methods honored the historic fabric of the structure, reusing existing fixtures where possible and minimizing the alterations to the building. An energy audit and interior improvements resulted in no net increase in energy costs.
