H.H. Richardson’s Trinity Church is a National Historic
Landmark considered by architects to be one of the top ten
most important buildings in the country. Over the course
of four years, the team restored and expanded within the tight
confines of Boston’s bustling Copley Square. The building
remained open and operational while installing an environmentally-friendly
geothermal heating and cooling system, expanding the Undercroft
to provide 13,000 square feet of new program space, and restoring
the exterior stones and mortar of the Central Tower to their
original color scheme, which included a “Richardson red” mortar.
