The Baker Warehouse at 4 River Street was built in 1947 for Walter Baker & Co., which was a division of General Foods. It is a significant example of the modern industrial design of Walter Kidde Constructors, Inc. The development team first met with members of the Lower Mills Community in March 1998 to discuss redevelopment of the vacant building. The project improved shopping opportunities for residents of Dorchester Lower Mills, sensitively restored the building, enhanced pedestrian and vehicular safety, and improved the streetscape.
